Story

Not much is known about Ragnarök's past. Hayden discovered the distraught stallion at an auction. Kat was a bit irritated with him for leaving during packing for the AUSe-Olympics, but she knew he liked going to the auctions. A good sized, well-built horse, caught Hayden's eye. He couldn't help but be curious about the fact that the stud was missing an ear, so he inquired about the black horse. The staff at the auction didn't know much other than the fact that the stallion had odd coloring for his breed, and he could barely be handled. Though they assumed his ear had to be removed at some point in time, based on the stub's healed scars. Hayden continued to follow the stallion, noticing that the staff was correct. Any attempt to lead the stallion did not end well. He would balk any time pressure was placed on the lead, or any time a person got too close to his head. Any sudden movement nearly had the horse bolting in the opposite direction. Yet there was something about the way he moved that caught Hayden's eye. He knew how Kat liked the "special cases", so he made a call to Dr. Lauper. The stable's vet showed up at Hayden's request. Together they watched as the auction progressed, waiting for the stallion's turn. When they managed to get the stud to the auction ring, he had already worked up quite the sweat and the handlers looked quite agitated. When Hayden looked around, he knew that this horse didn't have much of a chance thanks to his odd coloring and him being near unmanageable. It was likely that he would end up going to the kill pen. The bidding started and just as Hayden expected, there were none. He couldn't bear the thought of the stud going to a kill buyer, so he took the chance and placed a bid. No other bids were made, just as he expected. So he leaned to Dr. Lauper, "I have to go help Kat finish packing. I'll let you know when we head out, bring the trailer." He wasn't sure how Kat would take the surprise of a new recruit with the stress of the Olympics, so he wanted to make sure that they stud showed up after they had already left for Australia.
